third conditional
Use:
To express unreal situations in the past – to talk about
the opposite of what really happened. This form is often
used to regret or criticize.
Form:
If+ past perfect + would + perfect infinitive
If I hadn’t forgotten my raincoat, I wouldn't have got wet.
(I did forget my raincoat and I did get wet).
