Stative Verbs
The following verbs are not normally used in the Present Progressive.
They are called stative verbs:
• smell, taste, hear, etc.
• love, like, hate, want, etc.
• know, think, understand, etc.
• cost, own, seem, appear, etc.

Beth wants to go to the park.
NOTE:
• We use like + -ing to say what we like in general.
I like going to the shopping centre.
• We use would like to to say what we want to do
and to make offers, invitations and requests.
Would you like to play tennis with me this
afternoon?
